Hey Nonnie,
I get your concern and it’s fine to have worries, but I’d really not focus on them too much if you can. Fandom is meant to be fun, and as most of us don’t have any sort of control over the outcome, it’s pretty futile.
I will say that, given how Star Wars is, it’s not a romance movie. There are, of course, romantic elements and they’re important for the story, but it’s a space opera that’s more concerned with themes of redemption, forgiveness, and doing the right thing in the face of bad odds. That and, generally speaking, there’s an A plot (which is generally concerned with the Force users) and a B plot (which is generally the Resistance/Rebels) and, while they do intersect, they are trying to achieve different things and highlight different elements of the story.
I would expect the A plot to be more focused on an introspective type story (Rey and Ben grappling with the Dark Side and the Light and trying to find balance between those sides and Ben’s ultimate redemption) and the B plot to be more concerned with taking down the First Order (hopefully, with an epic storm trooper revolt headed by Finn) aaand given that the only leaked photos we’ve seen of the characters have Fi//nn and P//oe together (looking gorgeous), I’m optimistic that this will hold for epix. And with all this, it honestly doesn’t leave much time for romance squares or love triangles.
Plus, a love square is not important to the plot because if it was, that sort of thing would/should have been established before now. They’re fighting for the safety of the galaxy, right?
There’s a lot to do in the last movie and introducing story elements like that would really distract from what’s already been set up (by JJ as well, considering the romantic tropes that were used in TFA were set up by him).
So, honestly, don’t worry.
As for name calling, etc., even if those people for everything they wanted, they would still bitch about it because sometimes, some people just love to complain. And, outside of the internet, people really don’t care and just want a fun story.
I’m going to do my best to follow Rose’s example and save/celebrate what I love and ignore haters. I dgaf about their negativity and their opinions don’t bother me. They have about as much of an impact on the story as I do (which means they have no impact lol) and if they want to be miserable, that’s on them. They’re loud, but there aren’t that many of them, though it might not seem like it (and considering how much money SW makes and the fact that Kathleen just got her contract extended, it seems LF is happy with what they’re doing).
Anyways, I’m typing this on mobile lol so I’ve ranted enough. Take care and take heart, Nonnie! It’s going to work out alright in the end, you’ll see 😘😉
